PIC: A distinction graduate poses with Dr. Kizito Kanyoma (1st R) during the graduation ceremony
The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to the human capital development of the country by widening access to higher education.

Executive Dean for the School of Education, Communication, and Media Studies (SECOMS) at MUBAS, Dr. Kizito Kanyoma said this on October 29, 2025 at COMESA Hall in Blantyre during the 7th Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) graduation ceremony where  322 students  graduated with Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, and Postgraduate Diplomas in various programmes such as Business Management, Public Health, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Community Development , Media Studies, Graphic Design and Secretarial Management , just to mention a few.

Kanyoma who represented the University’s Vice-Chancellor at the ceremony said the graduation was not only a celebration of academic achievement but also a reflection of MUBAS’s continued support to the higher education sector in the country.

“This is not just a day of celebration, it is evidence of MUBAS’s continued efforts to provide opportunities for those who may not have made it into the university through the consolidated selection process,” Kanyoma said.

"Through the programmes offered at ICE, MUBAS provides pathways for young people to pursue their dreams and build human capital for the nation,” he added.

Commenting on the graduation theme: “Continuing Education: Enhancing Self-Reliance Through Innovation and Entrepreneurship”, Managing Director for Centenary Bank, Godfrey Byekwaso who was also Guest of Honour, encouraged the graduates to adopt a lifelong learning mindset.

"When you stop learning, you stop growing, focus on being entrepreneurs and innovators by changing your mindset and strive to be self-reliant and creative,” he advised.

In his remarks, ICE Manager, Dr. Andrew Chimpololo said the institute continues to register remarkable growth as evidenced by the significant rise in student numbers and programme offerings and he said plans are underway to open another centre in Mangochi.

"We are growing as an institute, though a significant number of students have graduated here today, many more have graduated in absentia, the increase in the number of graduates reflects the impact of new programmes we have introduced,” said Chimpololo.

ICE which was formerly known as the Continuing Education Centre (CEC) currently has centres in Lilongwe, Mzuzu, Blantyre, and Salima.

Rebranded in 2024, the Institute of Continuing Education offers both local and international programmes.

Currently the Centre is receiving applications from suitably qualified candidates to enroll into its programmes. For more information visit the link: http://www.mubas.ac.mw/centre/institute-of-continuing-education-ice
