PIC: EST class members during the car wash activity
The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Technology (EST) class had a car wash fundraising activity for their symposium on October 25, 2019 at the Polytechnic car park.

EST is part of the three programs that will conduct their symposium together. The others are, Environmental Health (EH) and Industrial Laboratory Technology (BILT)

The Chairperson of the EST symposium committee Zubeir Morta explained that this was the first of many activities that will be done in order to fundraise for the event.

He further outlined that much as they require assistance from the public and organisations, they also want to show them that they are taking an initiative to raise funds on their own.

Morta added that they are appealing to other stakeholders for financial support in exchange for their skills.

“On Saturday, 26th October 2019 we will prepare breakfast which will mostly be of local foods for sell at the hostels. Later on, we will have a big walk and an artist show at the Polytechnic campus, all to fundraise for the symposium,” said Morta.

The Chairperson also specified that their class will do the first two activities on its own but the rest will be collaborated with the other two programs.

Morta also added that one of the motives of choosing this activity is because their program is associated with environmental sanitation.

“We aspire in making our surroundings look clean, therefore apart from the financial assistance we will get from this practice we will also help in fostering our goal of a clean environment,” explained Morta.

Some of the stakeholders that are encouraged to be in attendance at the symposium which is estimated to be held in January next year are the Water Board, ESCOM and the EGENCO.
