On 1st September, 2023, students from the Department of Public and Environmental Health Sciences at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) took a proactive step in the post-cholera campaign by visiting the Mpondasi community in Mangochi district. The primary objective was to engage with community members, delivering vital Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) messages and demonstrating the establishment of accessible handwashing facilities like Mponda Giya.

Initiating their outreach with comprehensive health education sessions, the students played a pivotal role in empowering residents with essential information covering a spectrum of health-related topics. From personal hygiene and sanitation practices to disease prevention and treatment, the students presented insightful sessions aiming to instill a culture of health awareness and encourage preventive measures within the community.

As part of their commitment to community well-being, the MUBAS students also contributed by donating soap to approximately 270 community members, spanning men, women, and children. The active participation of the community members underscored the success of the session and highlighted the collective effort in promoting a healthier and more resilient community.
