Appeal for assistance to re-open and complete second semester
Management of the Polytechnic would like to inform the general public that on Tuesday 26th November, 2019 in the afternoon fire gutted down one of its 268 bed space hostel. Investigations on the cause of the fire are still underway.
Management would like to commend the courageous behavior for all those that managed to contain the fire amidst challenges and rescue property as the impromptu emergency response.
The fire completely destroyed the top floor of one wing of the building and has rendered the whole hostel inhabitable for the 268 students. The incident forced Council to temporarily close the institution as Management seeks short term interventions to manage the situation.
Complete rehabilitation or replacement of the hostel is a long term process requiring substantial resources. However, Management through Council intends to re-open the College on 6th January 2020 to complete the second semester. To this end, there is need to raise K146 million to support the immediate needs of the 268 affected students. The needs include accommodation, beddings, clothing, transport and learning materials.
Management of the Polytechnic is therefore, appealing to well-wishers (individuals, families, business community/private sector, the diplomatic community, NGOs religious community and the general public) to assist the students in any way possible.
