Speaking during the official opening an orientation session for first year students on 27 July, 2026 at the COMESA Hall in Blantyre, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized MUBAS' commitment to producing graduates who develop practical solutions to societal challenges. She encouraged the students to see themselves as the next generation of innovators and leaders.

"When you are going around the classrooms, see the leaders, innovators, and the greatness that has come out of those classrooms. That is what you are going to become because we are here to train individuals who will practically solve challenges in society," she said.

Chitera assured the students that their admission to MUBAS is a testament to their ability to succeed and urged them not to doubt their potential despite any challenges they may encounter during their studies.

She encouraged the students to actively participate in clubs, leadership activities, sports, research, and entrepreneurship initiatives offered by the university, noting that some of the most valuable lessons are learned beyond the classroom.

The Vice-Chancellor also urged the students not to underestimate themselves, stressing that MUBAS is committed to equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and character needed to uphold the university's legacy.

The one-week orientation session is designed to equip first-year students with essential information on academic life, the university's structure, policies, and student support services, preparing them for a successful and impactful academic journey.

Ahead of the orientation, the university management held an engagement meeting with parents and guardians of the newly admitted students on 26 July 2026. During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged parents and guardians to work closely with the university in supporting their children's academic journey.

She also advised them to regularly monitor their children's academic progress, noting that some students may present an overly positive picture of their performance when, in reality, they may have already been withdrawn from the university on academic grounds.

This is the second intake for 2026, following the first intake conducted in January.
