Kasambara defended his research on 2 September 2026, marking the successful completion of what he described as a “challenging and grueling” academic journey.

His thesis, titled “A Model for Managing the Comorbidity of Non-Communicable Diseases and HIV/AIDS in Young Adults in Malawi,” focuses on developing a predictive model that can help generate data on the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among young Malawians living with HIV and AIDS.

According to Kasambara, the research has the potential to contribute to improved integration of health services and care in Malawi, particularly for young people living with multiple health conditions.

The study was conducted across seven districts and four cities in Malawi, involving a wide range of health centres and hospitals. By examining the relationship between HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases among young adults, the research seeks to provide evidence that can support healthcare planning, resource allocation and the delivery of more integrated services.

Kasambara’s successful PhD defence marks an important academic milestone and adds to MUBAS’ contribution to research aimed at addressing some of Malawi’s emerging and complex public health challenges.
