Speaking during the cheque presentation ceremony today at FDH Head Office in Blantyre, FDH Bank plc Managing Director, Noel Mkulichi, said the donation goes beyond corporate social responsibility, describing it as a “generational investment.”

“Through the MUBAS Vice-Chancellor, we learned that many students are failing to complete their studies because of financial constraints. What we are trying to do is support this endowment fund, which is meant to run over years and assist needy students so they are able to accomplish their educational goals,” Mkulichi said.

Mkulichi also reaffirmed the bank’s continued support to MUBAS.

“We have always collaborated with MUBAS, and we will continue. This endowment is just a start, at some point we should also be able to increase the amount,” he added.

MUBAS Vice-Chancellor, Associate Professor Nancy Chitera, expressed gratitude for the donation, decsribimg it as a ‘life-changing opportunity’ for needy students.

“The 150 million kwacha is a lot of money, and we are truly grateful,” Chitera said.

She added that the contribution will help the university to meet its targets in developing human capital for the nation.

“As MUBAS, we are at the centre of implementing Malawi 2063, and this implementation targets our students. If we are not able to successfully train these students, we cannot achieve the vision.” She said.

Apart from various organizations who have joined the initiative, MUBAS is also contributing K200 million kwacha from its internally generated resources towards the fund, bringing the total amount raised to over K1 billion, including proceeds from a recent fundraising golf tournament.
