The visit which was organised by Corporate Governance Lecturer in the Department of Economics and Law at MUBAS, Emily Makuta SC. aimed at providing an opportunity to the students to learn practical issues on corporate governance.
“There is so much that I teach in class that I felt students would understand better if they attended an annual general meeting. Most of the concepts that students learn sometimes may seem abstract, so we brought them here so that they witness corporate governance in practice, focusing on the role of shareholders and directors’ accountability to the shareholders,’’ said Makuta.
Second year student, Faith Chisoni said attending this AGM provided her with an invaluable practical experience that is good for her academic journey.
“Today we have seen the practical aspect of corporate governance. We have learnt how the shareholders, as owners of the company, hold directors accountable. Seeing this process in action has helped us understand how it all comes together,” she said.
She appealed for more visits of this nature for students to observe how things they learn in class, are applied in the real world rather than studying just in theory.
MUBAS introduced the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) programme, a four -year degree programme offered under the School of Business and Economic Sciences in 2024. Since its inception, the programme has enrolled three cohorts with plans to enroll the fourth cohort in August this year.
