MUBAS Holds First Annual Engineering Conference
The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), through the School of Engineering, hosted its first annual engineering conference on 9th May 2024 at MUBAS main campus in Blantyre.

The conference, themed "Malawi 2063: Unlocking Development through Engineering and Innovations,” aimed to address challenges in various sectors, including water, sanitation, environment, energy, and mining.


The Executive Dean of the School of Engineering, Professor Burnet Mkandawire, said the conference serves as a platform for finding solutions to the country's development challenges.

"The theme of this conference is well aligned with the vision of MUBAS to be an inclusive, engaged, entrepreneurial, innovative, and research-oriented university, this conference is a testament to our commitment to unlocking development through engineering and innovations," said Mkandawire.


Speaking during the official opening of the conference, the Director of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Ministry of Education, Associate Professor Chomora Mikeka, emphasized that engineers play a pivotal role in driving the country's economic growth through research and innovation.

"Engineers have a critical role to play in driving the country's economic growth through research and innovation, this conference provides a platform for us to share knowledge, ideas, and expertise that can help us unlock development and achieve our vision for Malawi 2063," said Mikeka.

The two-day conference, brought together government officials, NGO delegates engineers, academicians, and experts to discuss critical issues affecting the country's development.
