One clear example of this involvement is MUBAS’ participation in the national stakeholder consultation workshop for target setting under Malawi’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). This initiative forms part of Malawi’s national response to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), a landmark international agreement adopted under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
Through this collaboration, MUBAS contributes technical expertise and research insights that inform national biodiversity data collection, monitoring, and evaluation processes. The university’s participation ensures that national targets are not only contextually relevant but also aligned with global biodiversity commitments, particularly those linked to SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
MUBAS’ involvement in such international processes reflects its growing influence as a key academic partner in advancing sustainable development through data-driven approaches.
By bridging research, policy, and global collaboration, the university continues to play an essential role in ensuring that Malawi’s progress toward the SDGs is both measurable and internationally recognized.
