The Role of the Head of Quality Assurance at MUBAS

The office of the Head of Quality Assurance at MUBAS plays a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the university’s academic and operational standards. It is tasked with ensuring that all academic programs, administrative services, and institutional processes meet both national and international benchmarks for quality. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, the office ensures that MUBAS remains competitive, credible, and responsive to the evolving demands of higher education.


Core Functions and Responsibilities

At its core, the Office designs, implements, and monitors quality assurance policies, procedures, and frameworks across the university. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Overseeing program accreditation and curriculum reviews.
  2. Conducting teaching evaluations and internal academic audits.
  3. Coordinating the preparation of self-assessment reports and facilitating external evaluations.
  4. Developing performance indicators and quality metrics to guide institutional decision-making.


Ensuring Academic and Operational Excellence

The office works to uphold quality in all university activities. This involves:


  1. Academic Quality: Conducting regular academic audits, student satisfaction surveys, and peer reviews to identify areas for improvement and track progress against strategic goals.
  2. Operational Quality: Ensuring that student services, administrative processes, infrastructure maintenance, and ICT systems operate efficiently and meet the needs of the university community.


The office works in close collaboration with the University Senate, Deans, Heads of Departments, and administrative units to ensure MUBAS delivers high-quality teaching, research, and community service.


Promoting a Culture of Quality

Through workshops, seminars, and policy briefs, the Head of Quality Assurance promotes awareness and understanding of quality principles among both academic and non-academic staff. This initiative fosters a university-wide culture of continuous improvement and accountability.


Strategic Planning and Compliance

The Office of the Head of Quality Assurance is central to MUBAS’s strategic planning process. By analyzing institutional performance data and benchmarking against peer institutions, the office provides evidence-based recommendations for enhancing the university's competitiveness and reputation. A critical part of this role is ensuring that MUBAS complies with the quality requirements set by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and other regulatory bodies.
