The conference was held under the theme “Embracing Teaching and Learning Innovations in Higher Education.” This theme addresses SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive, equitable, and innovative learning approaches that enhance educational outcomes, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the integration of new technologies and innovative practices in higher education systems.

It also aligns with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing among institutions to advance sustainable educational development.

In his opening remarks, the Executive Dean of the School of Education, Communication and Media Studies, Dr. Kizito Kanyoma, underscored the need for organizing a timely conference that aligns with MUBAS’ commitment to advancing innovation and excellence in higher education.

“As higher education institutions, we must embrace innovation, technology, and inclusivity in our teaching approaches to equip our students with relevant skills for the future,” said Kanyoma.

Delegates from 12 international universities participated, including Dortmund University (Germany), University Institute of Lisbon (Portugal), Makerere University (Uganda), Université Thomas Sankara (Burkina Faso), Uganda Christian University (Uganda), Université Joseph Ki-Zerbo (Burkina Faso), University of Cape Coast (Ghana), Ghana Institute of Journalism (Ghana), Daystar University (Kenya), Haramaya University (Ethiopia), University of the Western Cape (South Africa), and University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania).

The conference was jointly funded by the Communicating Migration and Mobility: E-Learning Programs and Newsroom Application for Sub-Saharan Africa (CoMMPASS) Project, which fosters collaboration among African and European universities to advance digital learning and research on mobility.
