Dr. Martin Bright Msendema brings over 15 years of experience in academia. In this role, he aims to build upon the strong foundations of the Research and Innovation Department while championing interdisciplinary research and innovation that address both local and global challenges.


He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Malawi and has a strong foundation in Business Information Systems. Through his teaching, research, and consultancy work, Dr. Msendema continues to contribute to shaping the field of ICT across multiple domains. His work has particularly focused on the development of information systems frameworks and policy, especially within the health sector.


Dr. Msendema’s research interests lie in social informatics and Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D). His work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including The Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing Countries (Wiley).


Throughout his academic career, he has held several leadership and governance roles within the university, including Head of Department, Senate Representative, and Member of the University Ethics Committee. In addition, he has served as a lead contributor on various projects and consultancies through collaborations with institutions such as the Public Private Partnership Programme and the UNDP Inclusive Digital Transformation for Malawi initiative.
