Dr. Andrew Munthopa Lipunga is a distinguished academic leader and professional accountant who serves as Head of the Accountancy and Finance Department at the MUBAS. He brings a robust blend of scholarly expertise and practical financial governance to his role, driving departmental strategy, academic innovation, and industry engagement.


Holding a Doctor of Philosophy in Financial Management from the University of Malawi, Dr. Lipunga is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi. His academic leadership has been instrumental in elevating the department’s profile—spearheading programme development, enhancing research output, and fostering partnerships with both public and private sectors.


Dr. Lipunga’s research focuses on corporate governance, financial and non‑financial reporting, accounting education, and SME financing. He has published in reputable international journals and contributed to policy‑relevant projects, including a World Bank‑funded initiative that established the MUBAS Incubation Centre. Previously, he served as Deputy Head of Department, MBA and PhD Programme Coordinator, and founding Editor‑in‑Chief of the MUBAS Journal of Business and Law.
